Why Most Americans Don't Mind if the Big Three Fail
will never profit.
Better to go into chapter 11 and reorg and if necessary go to the end of BK
so that some other investor group can take over and make a profit.
That is the way of capitalism and it works really well in a Darwin sort of way.
JPMorgan: Expect Fed to Cut to 0% in January
it will destroy the value of the US dollar...I think that is the plan that is in place
now...its much easier to let inflation pay current debts, even as the debts grow larger...because the people running the show will be long gone by then.
To me these 'masters of the universe' in DC are just a bunch of ignorant people
who have done much to harm this country.
GM's Letter to Car Owners Reeks of Desperation
it may not get paid back. So let's call it what it is; a bailout!
I think GM and other American car companies make ok products. That's not the
problem. The problem is that their cost structure is too high. This is because of
union contracts and legacy retirement benefits.
Put simply, these companies are just not competitive in the market place.
Much better to let them declare bankruptcy, shed the unions and operate like
the foreign companies do in the US.
And by the way, we can't afford to bail them out. We have to use that money
to bail out the states that will soon be in front of congress pleading their case
and defending their years of inefficiency and overspending.
Reality bites, doesn't it???
Dollar Strength: An Illusion
open to debate, not if.
Why Inflation Is Good
In what universe is that fair?
The article is bogus!
The Keating Connection
the brunt of the public's outrage over all of this.
They were the enablers and the recipients of a ton of political contributions
from the offenders.
Fannie and Freddie Did Not Cause This Crisis
Not the borrowers
Not the lenders and their agents
Not Wall Street
Not the home builders
Not the local governments
Not the state governments
Not the fed government
(because of all those tax $)
But the primary responsibility for all of this imo are our federal
legislators who pushed for easier lending, took lots of campaign money
from most of the above list, and failed to enable proper regulation
of all those more than stupid financial instruments.
There are reasons why Congress is held in such low esteem.
Please remember that when you vote in November.
Can We Please Have Some Sanity When It Comes to Taxes?
Apparently, all the indoctrination since 1913 has worked well and a monster, nanny government is the result.
See how class envy works to divide the masses?
Chrysler Considers Sale of Gas-Guzzling Dodge Viper
It is a strong halo brand for Chrysler that benefits them in many ways.
The fact that it does or doesn't make money should be besides the point.
Any costs of the brand should be allocated to promotion/advertising.
Very short sighted to dump this I think. And it doesn't give good gas mileage??? Nobody cares because thats not what its about.
Chrysler already has dumped the Magnum which is nearly identical to the 300 sedan except for some sheet metal changes. This was the lowest cost rear wheel drive wagon in the world...another big mistake.
Thats what happens when you let narrow viewed bean counters determine outcomes instead of taking a larger global view of the company and its long term objectives.
I.O.U.S.A. Movie Is Well-Done and Informative
I too think that everyone should pay at least some tax. This is needed
because everyone needs a stake in the system.
As it is now, many on the low end not only don't pay, they get back money they didn't earn. In this case you have a group that is very
happy to get more and more from everyone else.
I thought Buffet's remarks were just sort of 'Rah, Rah' for the U.S.
and I thought he was largely wrong. Predicting the future from the past
is impossible.
Very worthwhile film. Even if there was nothing particularly new, it
did a great job of arrangement and illustration of the dire path this
country is now on.
I would like to see much smaller gov't using the thesis that the gov't
should only do what the people cannot do for themselves. Clearly,
this is not the current case.
McCain portrays himself as a cost cutter and fighter against pork. That may be, but all that wasteful spending is a very tiny percent of our problem. As the film illustrates, the problem is healthcare. It seems obvious that our legislators should focus on that area of spending. There is no reason why we cannot have a great system that is cost
effective. Now the U.S. spends 22 cents for every healthcare dollar
on adminstration. Compare that with Tiawan that has a decent healthcare system and spends less than a nickel of each dollar on
admin. costs.
Regarding statements that were made in the film that our national legislatures were envisioned to be only part time people with careers back home I would note that even though we supposedly have full time legislators.
they still only work as if they are part time.
The Electric Car Battery Battle
have algae based gasoline for $2/gallon as one company is suggesting is achievable.
Should this happen, probably all the electric technologies will go by
the wayside, except for possibly uses where carbonless operation
is really important.
New Search Engine Cuil: Is It What You're Looking For?
but I hope they turn out to be another good search resource.
I wouldn't minimize what these people are trying to do as they
are ex-google people and probably have a lot of experience in this
area.
Search, currently, seems to me to have a lot of limitations and
unneeded result duplication is one of them.
Chesapeake Energy: Natural Gas Supply Responds to Price
If enough people do, then I won't have to as gasoline will be plentiful
and cheap.
Can Cities Create "Foreclosure Sanctuaries?" [Housing Tracker]
in an even more precarious position.
We really have nanny state government at both local and federal levels. In the long run I don't think this is going to end well.
Biofuels Policies: Costly, Ineffective, Inflationary
But other bio fuels, including algae appear to make a lot of sense.
Major funding for development of these alternatives could have
a huge payback to our economy.
But it will take time.
